VDS FTP

Post by mikedbom »

I've searched around the forums and have tried numerous methods but am still having trouble. I have Filezilla loaded on my laptop. I'm trying to connect to my VDS. I have the IP, username, password, default port is 21 but i get the following message:

Connection attempt failed with "ECONNREFUSED - Connection refused by server".

do i need to enable something on the server? thanks for the help.

Do you have a FTP server running on the vds? If so do you have a firewall exception in place for the FTP server executable(not the interface executable like with filezilla server)?

I dont have a server running on the VDS. I have used FTP plenty with webservers without issue. I was thinking the process would be the same however I am seeing it is not. With a webserver, I upload files from my pc via Filezilla to whatever directory i choose.

So if I load Filezilla on the VDS, how would I bring files to my pc if I dont have and url or external IP?

I guess I can always use RD for file transfer, but i'd like to figure out the FTP way.

thanks.

To use FTP to upload to your unmanaged VDS, you'd need to set up an FTP server on it. We describe one method for doing this here: http://www.nfoservers.com/forums/viewto ... =46&t=8540
