I know this was posted elsewhere, but we could really benefit from the extra single core performance of the 1270v3. I know the price is nearly identical with the 1st gen 1270, and that using inter-changeable parts(mobos that support 1st gen only etc)is probably the best practice for you, but if a v3 option becomes available, I would be very interested. Our #1 CS:S server uses almost 2 cores at the moment, and I would love to improve our server performance.

We are pushing the 1270 beyond its limits, our 1270 gets up to 53% CPU with only 166 players connected(according to the 5 minute sampling graph). Our CS:S server(according to john) was using a core and a half when our server was 50 players max. As I understand it, the only other thread is the networking thread, meaning our servers networking thread(at 62 players) is using half of a core by itself, with the primary thread maxing out a core. Our CS:S server peaks at 2.5MB/s upload(a single server) when it is full. We are still using the 1st gen 1270, the v3 with its 100Mhz improvement on top of 2 architecture improvements will likely give us a noticeable performance boost.

The 1270V3 is supposed to be 5%-15% faster than the V2 and the V2 is about 5-15% faster than the 1270, so doing an upgrade to that machine could be beneficial to you in that perspective but it's hard to say how much more wiggle room that will give you.

The 1270V3 doesn't have official pricing but it is highly likely it will be similar to the current V2 offering.

I see what you mean, the way it was phrased made it sound like you didn't have a price for the E3-1270v3 itself.

The 1270v3 should be added as an option closer to the end of this month. We have been waiting for the full parts list to become available from our vendor -- while the processors have been available for some time, the rest is just coming up, and still spotty from day-to-day. Before we can add the v3 as an option, we need to have a reliable supply chain and some buffer hardware ready.

I understand, thanks john, any insight into the price? How inconvenient is it to move all servers on our dedi to a new one? Expected downtime assuming no issues?

The price should be similar to the v2. Moving your servers should be easy if the new machine and old machine are both managed -- it can be done through the order page and will just have a few minutes of downtime.
