VPS and Websites
I was planning on getting a VPS mainly for our many websites and maybe another server on it as well. The question I have is how would I go about installing/setting up the VPS for our websites. We run wordpress if that helps.
Re: VPS and Websites
The easiest way I have found is through using xampp. However xampp is not very secure. Here is an article on fixing the security holes you get with xampp: http://robsnotebook.com/xampp-security-hardening .
That link was the first result from google, I have not used it.
If you aren't familiar with setting up web hosting software, would it be better to go with a NFO web hosting account (plans explained here: https://www.nfoservers.com/webhosting.php#differences )and a shared game server?
Keep in mind NFO has a custom control panel for their web hosting, so if you're expecting cPanel hosting, you won't find it here

Re: VPS and Websites
Thanks for the reply. I currently use the webhosting by nfo but we are out growing it, that is why im interested in the VPS.
Re: VPS and Websites
I strongly advise against using xampp, as even the developers tell you it is made for local testing, not live use. I have setup and used Abyss on our VPS, and it works very well. Have never had any issues with it.

So is this pretty easy to setup for a slightly below power user?TacTicToe wrote:I strongly advise against using xampp, as even the developers tell you it is made for local testing, not live use. I have setup and used Abyss on our VPS, and it works very well. Have never had any issues with it.
