Cannot open Port 14242..

Post by EvilCensor »

Trying to open Port 14242.. entered info manually via Windows Firewall and test using canyouseeme dot org and it takes a moment and get this:

Error: I could not see your service on xxx.223.xxx.18x on port (14242)
Reason: Connection timed out

If I turn off Windows Firewall I get this:

Error: I could not see your service on xxx.223.xxx.18x on port (14242)
Reason: Connection refused

Can anyone suggest a resolution?

When you open a port via Windows Firewall, you make it reachable. It will not be listed as open using a port scanner, such as the tool you're using, unless there is an application listening on that port. When you have an application listening on the port, it will accept and process incoming packets. If there is no application listening on the port, incoming packets to that port will simply be dropped by Windows.

Trying to see if Guncraft is worth hosting.. the server-side software is supposed to be listening on that Port. Also as I'm running IE and testing that Port (using that site) from the Server - isn't that listening?

Your web browser will not listen on the port you specify on a website. If you wanted to test it, you would need to have the application running on that port.
