Dayz Epoch Server on VM
Running DayZ Epoch Newest version.
I am just checking to see if our server settings are good. We are having lag and de-sync after about 32 players join. We only have self blood bag and player knockouts enabled at the moment. We also have 700 plus vehicles that spawn in.
Our server specs are On a VM
6 cores @ 2.9ghz per core
6gigs ram
600gb hard drive
10gig ssd drive
We have our page file of 5000mb on the SSD drive.
We also have our dayZ Epoch database on the SSD drive
our server settings are as follows:
MinBandwidth=6360000;
MaxBandwidth=35360000;
MaxMsgSend=1024;
MaxSizeGuaranteed=512;
MaxSizeNonguaranteed=68;
MinErrorToSend=0.0099999998;
MinErrorToSendNear=0.029999997;
MaxCustomFileSize=500000;
Any reason we should be experiencing lag and de-sync from these settings?
we have tried to adjust them several times with no luck.
The game is playable but the players complain of lag after 32 players join. when they unload a whole clip into someone and they don't die or if someone gets killed they respawn in the same location with full gear, ETC.....
or zombies hit you from 10 meters away.
Thanks In advance.

Re: Dayz Epoch Server on VM
What does CPU usage look like at 32 players? Are your servers maxing out any cores?

yes, one core always maxes out or at least it fluxuates from about 80% to 100%

Re: Dayz Epoch Server on VM
any idea about this. Are my settings ok?
One Cpu Thread is maxed out and 2 other threads are about 15 to 20%.
Is this normal?

Re: Dayz Epoch Server on VM
Try adjusting your rates with these.
MaxMsgSend=384;
MaxSizeGuaranteed=512;
MaxSizeNonguaranteed=256;
Overall your settings seem to be ok.

Ok, thank you.
this is with 23 players on. before your settings. I will apply the settings and see if it makes a difference.

Re: Dayz Epoch Server on VM
That is fairly high for only 23 players, what is the actual percentage number for that specific process?

Re: Dayz Epoch Server on VM
I still have not had a chance to make any adjustments with the settings you gave me. Will try later.
But, this is with 9 players on the server now. and see the processes. See all the arma2service listings. wscript is the file that starts the server if it senses the server is not running.
Also, forgot to mention that between the time I left the firs post and when I got your response, we did do an adjustment on the bandwidth. Here is our current settings without your suggested changes. I will try your changes as soon as I can.
MinBandwidth=800000;
MaxBandwidth=50000000;
MaxMsgSend=1024;
MaxSizeGuaranteed=512;
MaxSizeNonguaranteed=68;
MinErrorToSend=0.0099999998;
MinErrorToSendNear=0.029999997;
MaxCustomFileSize=500000;

Re: Dayz Epoch Server on VM
I also have another question about the CPU's through the VM.
Does the VM take advantage or have the ability to use the turbo on the actual Xeon CPU?
So, if the CPU is 2.9 with turbo to 3.8, will the VM use the turbo boost up to the 3.8 ghz?
Or, will it only use 2.9ghz standard?
Also, We are still testing the bandwidth settings. But we did find an issue with spawning objects.
We were hitting over 2000 objects and this may have caused some of our lag.
See this post for an answer on this subject.

I guess epoch's new monitor only allows for 2000 objects unless you mod the file to allow more.
We are making adjustments for this as well and will report back if we get it to run smooth. But if we know that we are using the turbo on the cpu then this will also give us a better idea of what we can and can not include in the server.

Re: Dayz Epoch Server on VM
The VM can take advantage of turbo, yes.
Please do report back and let us know if cleaning up those objects or making those edits helps.

Re: Dayz Epoch Server on VM
Tried these settings and get about the same results.
MinBandwidth=800000;
MaxBandwidth=50000000;
MaxMsgSend=384;
MaxSizeGuaranteed=512;
MaxSizeNonguaranteed=256;
MinErrorToSend=0.0099999998;
MinErrorToSendNear=0.029999997;
MaxCustomFileSize=500000;
Edited to make changes for objects to 6000 instead of 2000.
Also cleaned up dead objects that =1
Not sure what else to look at.
Any other suggestions?
Can NFO support take a look at it and see if settings are good?
We also have SSD with database on it. Not sure if this causes an issue or not but I would not think that it does.

Re: Dayz Epoch Server on VM
Well, things have seem to iron out very nicely.
This is with 52 players on the server.
see the pic.

This is with the last posted settings, cleaned up vehicles and edited max objects to be 6000 instead of 2000.
Thanks for all you help.

Re: Dayz Epoch Server on VM
Well we still have some deSync and lag issues after about 40 players. Still looking for some answers if there are any.
Thanks
Thanks
Re: Dayz Epoch Server on VM
Greetings,
I am also interested in a resolution as my NFO VDS which I use to host DayZ Epoch is also experiencing the same issues but with considerably less people; even with just one person on they may experience desync and stuttering after the server is running for just a few hours. I have the 3-core VDS package and my basic.cfg is set just how Stallion has his:
MinBandwidth=800000;
MaxBandwidth=50000000;
MaxMsgSend=384;
MaxSizeGuaranteed=512;
MaxSizeNonguaranteed=256;
MinErrorToSend=0.0099999998;
MinErrorToSendNear=0.029999997;
The CPU is not taxed in the least, normally sticking somewhere between 40% and 50% usage with maybe a spike to 60%. The game itself also only takes about 900MB of ram, so there is plenty left over. The server only hosts one DayZ server and a TS server with activity on either never exceeding 10 people.
Sorry, I am not attempting to hijack the thread and if I should make a separate one I will do so.
Thank you.

Re: Dayz Epoch Server on VM
Anthony, the biggest mistake that I usually see made is in not using SSD space. Some versions of this game just need to read/write from/to disk constantly, and that causes problems in a shared-I/O environment. Do you have the server and all databases that it uses on SSD-backed storage?
