How does a E3-1270: Solid Sandy Bridge-based machine
(FULL MACHINE)
Intel Xeon E3-1270 processor (four physical 3.4ghz cores
Compare to 6 core standard VDS ?
In performance ? Which one will eat lrss cpu resources etc.
Will there difference in preformance between the 2 ?
Im asking because im thinking either upgrading to an 8 core VDS or go with a full macine.

Re: Full macihine vs VDS
Generally the VDSes offer solid performance, but you will always get better performance out of bare hardware. What are you looking to run exactly?
Re: Full macihine vs VDS
Currently im running red orc 2 and rising storm, css, 3 no room in hell servers,BF4 Possibly scraping Bf4 and going for arma 3 instead
Re: Full macihine vs VDS
If you are running into the limits of your VDS on a per-core basis -- if servers are using an entire CPU core and could use more -- I'd recommend a dedicated machine, as it would add a bit of extra performance to each core. Otherwise, the VDS will be a better value, and more flexible.
Re: Full macihine vs VDS
With the current pricing structure, I think the 8 core VDS would be your better choice. I just bumped ours from 6 core to 8 and added a couple gigs of RAM. So I have 10 gigs total. I run several popular Unreal based servers and a few NMRiH servers as well. CPU was always in the 30% range, which wasnt bad, but always around 90% RAM usage. For the current price and performance, you really cant beat the VDS setup. BF4 might be your only hang up. Not only do you have to pay for the slots on a VDS, but there could be performance issues. If youre going to stick with BF4, you might want to just get a PPS server instead.
Just be aware you could see some down time in such an upgrade, if there is no room on your current box. Mine is upgrading, and supposed to take 3-6 hours to complete.

Our red orhestra 2 servers are our babys theyre are always busy, when it does, nearly every night my cpu jumps to around 50% or more..
So if switiching from a 6 core to an 8 core helps then i may take that route.
