Setting up a VPN on my server

Post by SurelyExploding »

Support told me to go here, so here I am.

I'm quite new to running servers, and I was hoping to use my new server as a VPN. Problem is that I have no idea how to do this, and when I followed a tutorial I seem to have locked myself out of the server and I had to reinstall the OS. The VPN is aimed to be used on iOS devices (So that my parents can watch American content), so advice on how to connect to the server with an iOS device would also be appreciated. Thanks!

I guess that I should add that I am running Windows Server 2012 R2. I would edit this onto the post but I see no edit button, sorry!

I seem to have been successful in starting up and connecting to a VPN, but now it will not connect to the internet at all (and the device status shows that IPv4 is not connected, even with that specific protocol enabled). Even though this doesn't have too much to do with NFO anymore, and assistance would be appreciated.

Silly question, but did you reboot the VDS after making the changes to ensure the settings take?

It's been rebooted multiple times, and the VPN eventually did start working, but internet connection through the VPN does not work. I did some google searching, and people saying that it has something to do with the DNS server (of which they provide no explanation) and even go as far as to say it just outright doesn't work, which would be a shame because that's about 25% of the reason I bought this thing.

Well as far as if it's the DNS causing a problem you could always test this by pointing to the google public dns.

Personally I used to run a socks5 proxy on my dedi, but tbh its a lot easier to just pay $5 a month here [another site] they allow 5 devices per account, have no restrictions on what you can do and have servers all over the world !
