Hello, I am new to these forums. I rent the top dedicated server NFO provides and im loving it, but previously my dedicated servers have been hacked / someone has let the password go for rdp. So i have been looking around at how to secure it. I have found this software: http://www.2x.com/secure-remote-desktop/
It isn't "compatible" with windows server, which is a load of crap they just want me to pay $200 a year for some professional software.
I have tried installing it on my computer then copying the files over, this worked for a while, but once I restarted the server it stopped and I can figure out how to get it to work again.
I have tried modifying the .exe to try and remove the os requirement, but I have no previous experience modifying the .exe so this did not work.
So I wanted to know if you guys have any idea either how i can force the program to install or how i can get it to work in any other way.
Thanks in advance to anyone who can help me.

There are much cheaper ways of securing your remote desktop. One of the most common practices is changing the default port so a bot scanning for 3389 won't recognize your server having the port open.
With some quick googling I also found this: http://rdpguard.com/whitelist.aspx It is still $80(with a 30-day trial) but it allows you to whitelist IP addresses that can access rdp. You MUST have a static IP if you want to whitelist, otherwise your server may become unavailable to you.
If you have people letting the rdp password slip, maybe you need to reconsider who you let have access to your machine.

Re: I want to install 2X Remote Desktop on my dedicated serv
Thanks for the response. Unfortunately I do not have a static ip and neither do several of the guys who also use it.
I have already brought a license for this piece of software when i thought I had it working on the trial but once I installed the license it stopped working.
I was thinking about changing the port, but this simply allowed me to block rdp all together and use the third party app, as it also allows you to white list individual clients not ips.
I have one running currently that only allows people with a computer named xxxx to connect which does increase the security but not to the level that the main application does.
Many Thanks
Luc

You could take the subnet mask of your Public IP address and allow that range of address through 3389 on the firewall. you can do that for the other users as well. also having a strong 16+ character password should assist you in the matter as well.
