Time 2 hours off, offset not working

Post by rymax99 »

So basically, I need to set my server time to GMT +1, as the coder of my server has implemented time-based features, and my GMT -5 timezone isn't viable for such features, as most of my players are European.

I've tried using the local time in the control panel, I've tried adding a +2 offset, nothing.

To be clear, when setting the offset, I've tried the following:
-Leaving the server on, setting the +2 offset, then rebooting from the 'reboot' command via SSH.
-Leaving the server on, setting the +2 offset, then rebooting from the control panel.
-Turning the server off from the control panel, setting the +2 offset, then booting the server from the control panel.
-Syncing my time with the ntpd package, even though I know it's already doing that automatically on reboot.

Any and all help will be appreciated.

Thanks.

What distro are you using? John will likely address the control panel, but have you tried setting a different timezone in the /etc/timezone file?

From what you posted, it appears that your timezone file (inside the VDS) is misconfigured, so it's overwriting the time we give you with something you don't want. It's labelled as "GMT+1" but the output shows that your system is reading it as GMT-1.

Have you tried using the CET file? Try:

rm /etc/localtime
ln -s /usr/share/zoneinfo/CET /etc/localtime
