Hyperaccelerator vs Ultraaccelerator
What is the difference between Hyperaccelerator and Ultraaccelerator. I am looking to buy a vds and want to know if it is worth going linux or windows.
Re: Hyperaccelerator vs Ultraaccelerator
This is going to heavily depend on what you're wanting to run. What specific game are you interested in and how many slots are you looking at?
We go very in-depth on our Ultraaccelerator option here. Definitely give it a good once over. http://www.nfoservers.com/forums/viewto ... =25&t=3266

@Kraze^NFo> Juski has a very valid point
@Juski> Got my new signature, thanks!

@Juski> Doesn't matter!
@Juski> You said I had a valid point! You can't take it back now! It's out there!

Re: Hyperaccelerator vs Ultraaccelerator
Remember that is a little dated, and valves source engine games lock the FPS to the tickrate. We run some 100-tick CS:S servers, which run at 100fps, max. The locked(66.7, or 100) fps is claimed to be more stable on linux, due to the optimizations listed in the KB article kraze posted.
Source-mods built on the 2007 engine can still run higher FPS values, but they aren't usually supported at NFO on linux.

I plan on hosting mainly Garry's Mod Trouble in Terrorist Town which supports Linux. I also plan on running possibly Minecraft or Starbound, but mainly Garry's Mod.
Re: Hyperaccelerator vs Ultraaccelerator
Starbound is not supported here on managed machines, yet.YourStalker wrote:I plan on hosting mainly Garry's Mod Trouble in Terrorist Town which supports Linux. I also plan on running possibly Minecraft or Starbound, but mainly Garry's Mod.
Garry's mod is better on windows, but Minecraft on managed is only supported on linux. If you want to run Minecraft you are forced onto linux.

I know this thread is a little dated, however since Soja replied to it I would be interested in his opinion or any one else for that matter.
Would i notice a difference on a counter strike source server if I was to upgrade?

Re: Hyperaccelerator vs Ultraaccelerator
Depends on the type of upgrade, but generally no. Some users claim that they can notice a serious difference while others say it feels the same. In our experience the overall performance setting has little impact on play. Generally consistent performance and familiarization is more important. For example if you played on a 22 tick server for a month and suddenly switched to a 100 tick server you'd likely notice a difference. That's doesn't mean the 100 tick is better, it just means it's different.Bigsplash wrote:I know this thread is a little dated, however since Soja replied to it I would be interested in his opinion or any one else for that matter.

Upgraded from hyperaccelerator to ultraaccelerator?Bigsplash wrote:I know this thread is a little dated, however since Soja replied to it I would be interested in his opinion or any one else for that matter.

If you are in the normal game server rental system, I believe this would move you to Linux. We still run most of our CS:S servers on Linux because of personal experiences with stability. We were able to regularly reach 20k-30k uptime on Linux over windows on our CS:S servers(uptime measured in minutes, so that would be roughly 14-21 days uptime). I don't have any concrete data to support this, and we currently run CS:S servers on a mix of Windows and Linux without any real issues.
With the hardware offered here, which is in most cases the fastest you can get, I wouldn't think there would be any noticeable difference between the two.
