So my server is on lockdown and I can't get the files from it. I have tried this but to be honest I am in way over my head.
Is there anybody who could dumb this down so i can get some very crucial files back?

Re: Download file from VDS
What do you mean by "on lockdown"?
Is it a network issue, can you get into VNC fine?

Re: Download file from VDS
I can get in with VNC.
When I try this with my info I get this error.
ifconfig enp0s4 1.2.3.4 netmask 255.255.255.0
route add default gw 1.2.3.254
echo "nameserver 8.8.8.8" > /etc/resolv.conf
SIOCSIFNETMASK: no such device
route: hostname lookup failure
ifconfig: `--help' gives usage information.

Re: Download file from VDS
what is enp0s4? Your network adapter? Are you sure that is the name? By default network interfaces are named eth0.
Have you looked at the config file for your network interface? What is the output of just "ifconfig" (no censors please, there is no sensitive information in the output).
EDIT: Sorry I see you were just using the information in the post.
Are you booting from the livecd, or your OS? Can you boot into your os fine?

Answering one question at a time will make this take very long.

Re: Download file from VDS
I am using the cd, i can get into OS but it is no help.
Re: Download file from VDS
What is the problem with the OS? If you can boot into it, and there is a network issue, just fix that.
