Hello,
I've updated the Hosts file on my Linux VDS/VPS (Ubuntu 12.04-LTS x64, clean install) to reflect changes for a GameSpy master server replacement for Painkiller.
I've made the changes shown here: http://qtracker.com/master-gamespy-hostfile.php
I then saved the changes and rebooted the server, but my server still isn't being picked up by the tracker. I've helped others make this change with little-to-no issue, so I'm wondering if anyone here might have any ideas on what might be causing this?
I'm able to connect to the server via the Painkiller game client by manually typing in the IP, and everything is set to have the server listed as public.
Let me know if I'm missing any information!
Thanks!

If you type "ping painkiller.master.gamespy.com" from the command line, do you see it resolve to their IP (65.112.87.186)?

Yes, the IP resolves to qtracker's address. :F
Re: GameSpy Alternative Hosts File on VPS/VDS
You might try manually setting the masters in the server.cfg file in that case (using whatever commands Painkiller needs, like sv_master). Also double-check to make sure that no firewall is running and that SELinux isn't enabled.

Unfortunately there is no way to alter this in the config file, which is why we are using the hosts file.Edge100x wrote:You might try manually setting the masters in the server.cfg file in that case (using whatever commands Painkiller needs, like sv_master). I've looked to see if SELinux is installed/enabled, and it isn't.
Thanks for the input

Re: GameSpy Alternative Hosts File on VPS/VDS
Ended up being on qtracker's side of things, we got it fixed! Had something to do with a heartbeat variation for Painkiller and they adjusted there master server accordingly.
Re: GameSpy Alternative Hosts File on VPS/VDS
They actually responded to you? And if so, what email address did you use?
