Full machine or VDS help
Im running arma 3 64 slot server
Along with red orchestra 2 and 2 other source games.
our issue is everytime our server fills to around 40 to 45 players on arma 3,we get alot dsync and lagg on ther server.so we have to restart to correct those issues and it starts all over again.
some players get kicked when it reached around that number of players.
So my question is,will adding an ssd space to my vds help,Can i run just the arma server on there?
Or shall i go for a full machine (E3-1270: Solid Sandy Bridge-based machine four core)
will this help?
Im currently running a 10 core vds on a managed.

Re: Full machine or VDS help
A full machine would provide an increase in performance due to you no longer being in a virtual environment, but that's assuming CPU is your issue. Overall CPU usage on your VDS appears to be kept within what we recommend. Your Arma server is definitely the biggest offender. It's using a little over 2 cores and only at 30 slots. I don't believe Arma 3 will use more than three cores, so it's possible you are hitting that cap and that's causing your issue.
If you do go with a dedicated machine. I'd recommend the V3. Mainly because each revision of the 1270s are 5-15% faster on a per core basis. So you're looking at a 10-30% increase in performance on a per core basis. This allows more overall slots and will future proof you for newer games.

Re: Full machine or VDS help
Our cpu is hitting around 45% usage and with around 5000 to 5999gb free.
So the dysync starts to happen around when 40 odd players join.
at my current cpu usage do you still recommend a full machine?

Re: Full machine or VDS help
Go to your "Server usage" tab for your Arma server(s). What does the CPU usage look like? Post screenshots if you'd like.
A dedicated server would definitely be an improvement over a VDS if you are having a CPU bottleneck. Just as kraze recommended, I would go for a v3 if I was purchasing a new dedicated server. The 1270v1 is nice for a lot of smaller servers, but if you need more CPU horsepower for a single server the newer/faster v3 would be the better option.
What CPU is your VDS on?

Re: Full machine or VDS help
In your specific case I would simple due to Arma 3. Imagine you can normally get 2 servers per HT core or even 1 for games like BF3/BF4, but your server alone is using over two cores and possible three once full.
The only real change you are doing here is removing the overhead from being in a virtual environment. Even though, we minimize as much as we can. This impact becomes a bit more noticeable for games which are very intensive(like Arma). Me recommending the V3 is merely me just wanting you to get more bang for your buck.

Re: Full machine or VDS help
currently our usage is CPU usage over the last 5 minutes: 34.30 %
Memory available: 6175 MB
its lwo because i RO2 server is now empty, but even still we get dysync on arama 3 .
Our VDS is on
Your server is currently being hosted on a 10 cores of a Dual Intel Xeon E5-2690v2 (Ivy Bridge-E 3.0ghz) node with 10 total processor cores and 10 gigabytes of RAM. The database code for this node is dallas-virtual-vdsnm; its OS is Windows.
These are the current stats on your entire machine (not just your game server), based on the last 5 minute period:
CPU usage: 31.89%
Free physical memory: 5908mb
Machine uptime: 12 days, 11 hours, 0 minutes, 51 seconds
currently there is 44 players on arma3
So on a four physical core fullmachine, would i be able to install around 4 gameservers?

Re: Full machine or VDS help
Soja is referring to the new CPU graphs we added. If you go to the "server usage" tab for each specific server you can now see CPU and memory usage for that server.

Re: Full machine or VDS help
Your overall machine usage would not be the issue in this case. It is the usage of your arma process. This is displayed on the "Server usage" tab in a graph.

Re: Full machine or VDS help

server struggles to keep players in at 45 odd players.
Re: Full machine or VDS help
I would say with 99% certainty you have a CPU bottleneck with that game server.

Re: Full machine or VDS help
if i was to drop down my 10 core and order a single gameserver for arma 3,would be able to keep my ip for arma 3?
Or if i decide to go for the full machine could still keep the same ip ?

Re: Full machine or VDS help
You could keep your IP in both scenarios, assuming the machine would be managed as well.J-English wrote:if i was to drop down my 10 core and order a single gameserver for arma 3,would be able to keep my ip for arma 3?

Re: Full machine or VDS help
You would be able to keep your IP in both cases. You can re-order your arma server and choose to move it as a separate game server(and you will be charged). When you order a dedicated server, you can go through the same process, but choose your new managed dedi to place it on.J-English wrote:if i was to drop down my 10 core and order a single gameserver for arma 3,would be able to keep my ip for arma 3?

Re: Full machine or VDS help
Hmm ok,havent decided wether to go for a single arma3 gameserver or a full machine. How well will a single gameserver (arma3) performcompared to my vds and a full machine?
Re: Full machine or VDS help
A single game server would perform exactly the same as on a dedicated machine, if they had identical CPU's. Both solutions will perform better than game servers on a VDS.
