Hi! I have a VDS/VPS with 4 cores and 10gb of ram.
I run an a community that's growing daily. My main server is DarkRP
And I have it capped to 30 slots.
I would like to increase the slots to 60 players, how ever the server starts to lag very badly when there's any amount of player over 30 connected, at 42 players it's like the server is wanting to crash
BUT the hardware usage is minimal! CPU never goes above 30% and ram never reached 1 gb!!
Is there a way to boost the connection or something as I believe that it's the connection to VDS/VPS but I am not sure...
Any information you guys have will be very much appreciated!
Thank you for reading.

Re: Performance issue.
Overall CPU usage appears to be low, but what you need to focus on is CPU usage for that specific server. How much CPU usage is that specific server using? Have you tried lowering the tickrate down to 33?

Re: Performance issue.
I would recommend adding FPS monitoring to your gameserver and monitor it daily, and as kraze said you should turn down the tickrate and see if that helps.
Re: Performance issue.
To reaffirm that Kraze said, most users need to lower the tickrate to 33 or less to achieve acceptable performance on large Garry's mod servers when using a VDS.
Large RP servers need to use lower tickrates, for example the purge server in my sig is running 22 tick, and it barely gets good performance at 95 players(this is not possible on a VDS).
Some commands that are 100% required on GMOD servers to keep them from having lag spikes:
sv_allowdownload 0
sv_allowupload 0
If you want an explanation on why these help, I can give it to you, otherwise just trust me
To see if tickrate is your issue, check your "server usage" tab, there is a graph there that shows the CPU usage of your game servers process. This should max out at a little over 100% for GMOD.

Re: Performance issue.
Thank you for the replies! I was running at at 66 tick and with 30 players the cpu stays around 40%
I switched to 33 tick and will see what happens, I have also added the sv_download and upload to 0 . thank you soja.
radaleks, I definitely will get a fps monitor!.
