Need help choosing plan!
I plan on making a Gmod server with DarkRP as the gamemode. I would like for it to have 64 slots and be lag free. I have been setting up the server locally on my machine and it has many mods and addons. I have read these posts here: http://www.nfoservers.com/forums/viewto ... f=1&t=8499 and http://www.nfoservers.com/forums/viewto ... 44&t=10330. From what they are saying, gmod really only utilizes one core. So I was thinking, I should probably get the 2 core package, but only 4 core packages have the managed game-server which is something I would really want. Also, should I be ordering a VDS or should I just get one of the standard packages, which one is more powerful in terms of performance? Another question, do the VDS servers come with webhosting so I can setup fastDL?
Re: Need help choosing plan!
4 core is absolutley fine, enough juice there to add more servers,Doesnt come with FAStDL server,You will have to purchase that seperate which is a couple of extra $ ,but if you purchase gmod on its own,you get the free fAStDL server, which also you can create your own website too.
I personally would go for the standard GMOD gameserver with free website/FASTDL ,I think its better optimized than VDS`s(Thats only if you want to run 1 GMOD gameserver with free website/FASTDL)and you dont plan to have more than 1 GMOD server.

For a single server, I'd recommend starting with a standalone server (not on a VDS). It will have the highest performance, since we put the standalone servers on very fast machines that are not virtualized. Standalone servers also come with free webhosting and automatic syncing (which is an add-on option for VDSes).

Ok so If I get one of the standard packages, I shouldn't experience any choke with the server or insanely low server fps? Is there an option for the standard packages that allow me to use more cpu than whats given?
EDIT:
What would you recommend the server rates be int order to reduce choke and lag?

In most cases Garry's mod server performance issues are due to the server configuration. It's pretty rare I see a Garry's mod server(or any server) have issues that isn't due to an addon or some type of custom content.
The rates we set by default are solid and in most cases should be left alone, though if you notice some of your visitors are seeing choke I'd recommend lowering your minrate to something around 50K, instead of 100K.
It is also not possible to get the server to use more CPU than it's designed for. As with most games, Garry's mod is a single threaded application, so it will not use more than a single core with some spill over to a second one(networking thread). We allow all Garry's mod servers to use up to an entire core for 300 seconds before rebooting it. This allows for sudden spikes in usage from players due to prop spam or anything else. If you start seeing these "high usage restarts" you should take a look at your server configuration for any issues. One thing to keep in mind is a 20, 30 and even 40 slot Garry's mod server should never be using an entire CPU core for 300 seconds. So that warning is a pretty clear response that something is broken.
Most Garry's mod servers owners choose to lower their server tick rate which will reduce overall CPU usage. Generally 33 is a safe bet, but some server owners take it even lower for very active or extremely customized servers.

@Juski> You said I had a valid point! You can't take it back now! It's out there!
