What should I do?

Post by adamg12 »

I recently purchased the highest package available: Twelve core: Our current top plan.
Twelve full, dedicated HT CPU cores (Nehalem or better)
12288 MB of RAM
1000 GB of RAID-protected storage
24000 GB of InterNAP bandwidth transfer

and have had my first issue today.

I do not know much about VDS but I recently installed a gamemode that I purchased for Garry's Mod. It's called GmodDayz.

I hit the peak of 41 players in game tonight and my server got auto restarted for >80% CPU usage. I assume it has something to do with the gamemode itself and all the players joining/online.

What options do I have in terms of upgrading/fixing it if possible?
And is it okay to leave the CPU usage higher than 80%?

Thanks

p.s I shut down my two DarkRP servers for this gamemode(Hopefully it makes things better) and I also ticked the boxes to stop it auto restarting.

I do not recommend starting with the highest package on a VDS. You should start with the smallest package that you think you might actually need, since you can easily upgrade from there if it turns out that you need more.

Servers in our managed system aren't automatically restarted for using 80% CPU. They are automatically restarted (by default) for using 100% CPU for 5 minutes at a time. Is that what you're thinking of here? If so, turning off other servers will not help, because that check refers to individual core usage, not overall VDS usage. In the short term, I'd recommend simply turning off the check for that single server, while you look at potentially optimizing it further. Options for reducing its CPU usage will include reducing the tickrate and adjusting its addons.

Thanks very much for the reply, will look into optimizing it further.
