RCON Bad Password? .-.

Post by JacobStar9104 »

hai everybudy
So I've been using NFO for about a week now and I'm very pleased, but I ran into an issue. I set the rcon IP adress and password in my server.cfg and startup, but when I put in my correct rcon password it just comes up as "Bad Password" pretty sure my supersecret password that is 123 is correct.
Is there a fix for this? I'm using a VPS server - Linux Ubuntu 14.04.

You do not need to set your rcon IP in your server.cfg

rcon_address is for a client connecting to RCON without joining the server.

All you should need in your server.cfg is rcon_password 123(or even better, put +rcon_password 123 in your command line for security), and after you join your server type "rcon_password 123", then issue a command using rcon.

A test I always do to see if I am properly connected is "rcon stats".

To clarify. Garry's mod RCON passwords are now set on the command line by default. No need to request it be done.

I removed the rcon_address and now I get a new error:
Unable to connect to remote server (72.5.102.238:27027)

Make sure not to add the "rcon" prefix to your command if you are using the rcon tool within the control panel.

That would be the "rcon tool" on the "server control" tab. Generally it will display a "Unable to connect to remote server" error when using the "rcon" prefix before any commands.

Well the issue is, if I'm trying to login through HLSW or use my MySQL database for auto donations, I need the RCON and it keeps giving me the same error.

Kraze, he said hes running a specific Ubuntu version, so pretty sure this is unmanaged :P

Do you have any other game servers on that IP address? The error you got usually means TCP is restricted or the game server isn't properly binding the socket for RCON.

Yes, I missed that due to this being in the incorrect sub-forum.

I understand this section is for shared game servers, but a Garrysmod server on an unmanaged machine here is still something that seems appropriate to ask in this section.

It can be a fine line, yes. Though, the specific game sections are designated for standard rented servers. Virtual's have their section since the troubleshooting for them can vary widely. This is done for organization and to not confuse other shared customers.

Good news, I tested it on my PH server and it works great with the RCON. So it's the port, I have -port 27027 on my TTT server, is there a way to change the default RCON port for a server? Thanks!

By default, SRCDS listens for RCON connections on TCP port 27015. If the server's port number is changed using the -port option, the RCON port will change as well.
from https://developer.valvesoftware.com/wik ... N_Protocol

When you use netstat, does it show srcds listening on TCP port 27027? If you haven't already, make sure you specify the IP on the command line with +ip
