Blue screening since moving to unmanaged windows

Post by soja »

We recently started having blue screen issues on one of our VDS's.

It was a managed linux VDS, but due to performance issues, we moved to unmanaged windows. Since the change we have been experiencing seemingly random bluescreens. After evaluation of the Minidump file, it looks like we are getting "PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA".

These are the minidump files I have, and the dates they were created:

As you can see, there doesn't seem to be a pattern in the time the bluescreens happen.

I don't have any strange software installed. Other than my TF2 servers, I have installed:
Filezilla FTP Server
Google Chrome(not running at the time of BSOD)
Serverdoc(used to auto reboot our servers in the event of a crash)

We have used serverdoc on 2008R2 on a personal dedi, and haven't had any issues with it, so I don't think that is the issue.

I can provide the Minidumps for download if that would be helpful, but other than that, does anyone have any ideas as to what the cause could be?

Thanks.

P.S. For NFO staff, the id/name for this VDS is gfltf.

Can you think of anything that may be triggering it? Something server related or any possible changes to the OS at all? Also do you have all of the latest Windows updates?

@Juski> You said I had a valid point! You can't take it back now! It's out there!

I do see some security updates for windows available. I can install them later tonight when the 2 TF2 servers empty out.

I am not logged into Remote desktop most of the time, I only log in when someone mentions the servers are down and I log in to see the bluescreen prompt.

I have no third party services installed. I did install .net for serverdoc, but like I said we use it with 2008R2 on a dedi and it works fine, so I don't know if that would be the issue. I can install serverdoc on one of our other windows VDS's to see if it causes bluescreens there.

The only things left open when I log off remote desktop is the 2 srcds processes, serverdoc, and that is it.

I will check to see if the minidump times match up with a server crash or something, but other than that I am at a loss.

soja, we can try rebooting the machine hosting your VDS and applying the latest Xen release, if you'd like. Let me know through a support request if you want to go that route.

If I see another bluescreen John I will open a ticket so that can be done.

Thank you.
