Larger machines for rent?
Currently renting 5 managed dedis in Chicago. Are there any plans to offer some larger machines for rent as managed dedis? I know it isn't a popular option, but if there are any plans to offer a machine with something like dual E5-2667v3's at a reasonable price compared to 4x1270 machines, I would be interested. Low clock speeds stopped us from asking for a E5-2690v2 box, but with Haswell vs Sandy bridge I think the clock speed is made up for with IPC improvements.
Thanks
Thanks

Re: Larger machines for rent?
We do have other configurations that we use internally, but we normally don't offer them since they are not popular and are very expensive. We generally recommend customers stick with multiple machines so that they can maintain reliability. If one of your current machines were to see an issue or experience a hardware failure you'd likely be ok, but if a bigger one were to go down you'd be completely offline.

Re: Larger machines for rent?
I just want to simplify my control panel. Right now I need to visit 6 different tabs to check the status of all my machines(we have a managed dedi in Frankfurt as well), and thats after scrolling past 70 installed managed game servers. It takes a long time to do anything when visiting so many different pages.

We haven't used any out of pocket money to pay for our servers after the initial 2 months when we were starting up. Our donors have been absolutely amazing!

Re: Larger machines for rent?
We've offered larger machines at times but avoid them for a number of reasons, including:
- Their per-core speed is lower than E3s (not just in terms of Ghz rating, but in terms of measured performance). We know that most customers who want a dedicated server need fast individual cores.
- For the equivalent raw performance, an E5-based server costs much more than an E3-based server, both up-front and in terms of ongoing power rates. Our costs to customers are based on those, so this means that the rent is higher than it would be for separate E3 servers. From a customer perspective, this makes them less appealing.
- Because these machines are not popular, it doesn't make sense for us to keep stock of them. This means that we have to build and ship each new order. This is more expensive for us than re-imaging in-place machines and makes it more difficult to meet setup deadlines.
- When customers have purchased large machines in the past, they have generally not kept them for very long. This makes sense, because customers' needs change. If you have four E3 machines, you can easily drop one of them to save money, but you have no such flexibility with a single E5; you'd have to cancel the whole machine. E5 machines that have been cancelled are more likely to sit idle and this costs us more money.
We do not currently have plans to add dual-socket offerings. In the future, conditions may change, and we can reconsider; for instance, if we have a spare machine that we previously used for game servers, or if we have develop a very strong dedicated server business and the demand for them is created simply along with overall demand.

Re: Larger machines for rent?
Thanks for the info John. I can live with the cluttered control panel, I was just seeing what options were available.
We are currently running all 6 of our managed dedis just above 50% at peak, so a 7th will be on the way soon. I know it probably won't be a popular topic around here, but any info on BFH? I have seen competitors advertising pre orders, but the most interesting part is the slot prices were significantly cheaper than BF3/4, hopefully the slot tax doesn't exist with this game, and that it is finished on release(I can dream, can't I?

We do not have information that we can provide on BFH at this time.
Other providers should not have information, either..
