IP is assigned, but gmod is unable to find it?

Post by Jerpy »

NFO doesn't support for things of this type if it's unmanaged, which I understand. - so that's why I'm here.
So I own a VDS that runs four things. 2 Gmod servers, web, and TS3. 1 gmod server, the website, and the TS3 has had absolutely no problem. All IP's came on the adapter, everything was good to go. The website is assigned to its own, and the TS3, and each gmod server. The problem I'm currently having is that one gmod server refuses to show up anywhere. I have triple checked IP's and gateways, both are fine. There are no errors in console, and infact it starts up without any issue, as if you could join it. When you attempt to join it though, via IP - Nothing. Can't find it. You can ping the IP though via command prompt. I don't know what else to try here, anyone got any ideas?

Is the port open on the IP address the server is bound to?

I use this tool to see if the port is open http://www.yougetsignal.com/tools/open-ports/

With this tool, the server needs to be online for the port to be showed as open. If this tool shows the port as closed, the game server is probably having troubles binding to the IP.

Can you post your command line?

Well that would do it. I think the reason that didn't cross my mind to check for the port is because that port has 'technically' already been opened, but apparently out of my 4 IP's, its the only one without 27015 open. Weird. How would I go about opening this port for this IP?

Waaait... this makes hardly any sense. I opened the port 27015 for the server yesterday. To clarify, my first gmod server was working before I even added that rule (it still works though, adding the rule did nothing to the first server). I added this rule just as an extra step if needed. I have it on both inbound and outbound tcp/udp. Yet it says the port is opened for our #1 gmod, but not #2. I feel like I missed a step here

It isn't really necessary to open the port specifically, allowing the program(srcds.exe) through the firewall will allow it to open any ports it needs. This is the preferred method.

Make sure your second server install has srcds.exe allowed through the firewall.

Allowed the program, still did nothing.

I definitely appreciate your help soja, but if anyone else has an opinion or suggestion here I'm desperate. I really need to get this server up, as our old one is down and this is burning our ranking. I've tried everything but no matter what, this IP does not want to bind correctly.

Can you post your command line?

Enable -condebug in the command line, and post the console.log here after you boot up the server.

Sorry about that command line, just remember that you had asked for that in your other post. Here is the command line: http://pastebin.com/mxrRZT49

And here is the bootup console log: http://pastebin.com/uWxACx47

That doesn't look like the full console.log bootup.

Try booting the server up on a default map.

Yeah, I thought the same thing because when I compared console.log and the actual console, that wasn't right. When I tried on a default map the same thing happened. So my only solution was to use gyazo. Gyazo's acting a little weird, but here's the URL's in order from top to bottom of the console.

Alright I dont know whats going on here but its possible its something on my end. I'll get a couple friends to test and see if they are able to connect to the server, because while running it for tests, I got this.

I didnt even understand it at first, but I'll try some things. I'll report back shortly.

Is the server online now? Do any remote administration tools like HLSW show it as online? I can add it to my HLSW and see if it shows as online. Add me on steam if you want to do some more troubleshooting.

Soja, thanks so much for the help so far; but I've got something else to say.

It is from this point on, we may crown jerpy as legally blind (just for today)
+ip 74.91.115.178 -port 27105
Is what I said in my command line.

I triple checked. Quadruple checked. I checked so many times for typos in any possible place or spot. I saw nothing wrong. Made sure the IP was right, and I must have skimmed over the port.

See the issue with the port there?
Yeah. Looks like I went to put in 27015 which is gmod's port, and instead put in 27105. Awesome.
Well, great news everyone. Since I've changed it to the correct port, it works 100% now.

Don't feel bad ...been there done that also with 27105....all it takes is flipping a digit or mistyping a word in your command line will do it. At least next time you'll find it quicker :)
