Arma3 on VDS

Post by barhund »

How well does Arma3 run on a managed windows VDS, and how many slots would you say is the maximum? CPU is a E5-2690v2. The server is currently running (2) L4D2 servers.

What VDS/VPS plan are you using, and what is the usual CPU usage and RAM usage with the current servers you run.

To be honest i run arma 3 servers,I wouldnt go for a VDS.i would go for a full machine setup or a rented standalone.

Dont get me wrong VDS`s are great, but for arma 3 there will be alot of dsync once you reach 50 players, especiall ALTIS!.I ran a 10 core VDS i had issues. Its just the way arma 3 is,not very optimized in utilizing cpu cores.Nothing wrong with a VDS.

That is impossible to say in advance. The performance of Arma 3 highly depends on which mission you want to run and what mods (if any).

Sorry, but there is no clear answer to your question.

I appreciate you guys chiming in. The L4D2 servers use <10% under full load, and are rarely used unless i'm on them myself. If Evolve goes dedicated I'll probably just put that on the server. But i have some buddies that were interested in Arma3 as well.

the plan is the 4core plan with 4gb of ram, cpu usage currently varies between 0 and 10%

I ran a Arma 3 Altis Life server without much just a little core addons on a 4 core and it lagged pretty bad when the player count hit around 55-65, then i upgraded to a six core and it ran smooth with a 70 players on. So depending what type of Arma 3 server you intend on running it can be different.

Lately wasteland with the new update of arma 1.38 (physics) causes so many issues, not all the time but sometimes.Im also getting huge rpt log files now. They spand from 200mb to 500mg per file.Other server owners are getting 1gb of rpt files!

Its why i asked nfo to add -no logs to the parameter. But like calibaan said..it varies from what type of mission/mods you want to run.

But im close with a lot of server owners from nfo and other GSP`s..and they have all the same issues as mine.

Just my 2 cents
