need some info on specs of web site
I was instructed by support to come here and ask about the specs for my web site that you host. I was informed it is on a Linex box but what about the other specs ie; CPU, what is the RAM? Is it 8gb or 16gb etc. Would someone please pass along that info to me. My web site is at www.hkgamers.com and you also provide our game server at hk1.game.nfoservers.com:27015 Thank-you in advance for your help.

NFO provides excellent web hosting and you don't have to worry about running out of RAM or storage space. For the most part this link should be enough.

If, you want in-depth info, then there is a way to check the disk space and RAM, but its through SSH. You can use putty and enter the following commands to check particulars.

Re: need some info on specs of web site
For web hosting, the standard from what I could see when I had web hosting was a 3-core Xen VDS with 3GB ram, and 300GB HDD, with 30GB of SSD space for MySQL databases. These resources may be adjusted depending on what people are doing on your specific VDS.
You can view the CPU/ram of your game server by viewing the "Server Health" tab in your control panel. It should look something like this:

Re: need some info on specs of web site
Thanks guys for your help, but I am still looking for the specifics of my web site not the game server. I realize the two are connected in the control panel, but I am looking just for the web site info. And the link provides me with general info but not such things as the type of processor, etc. And that is what I am looking for, and Soja, the info in the control panel says it is for the server. It does not specify the web site and it says the OS is Windows but the tech told me Linex is the box for the web site. So I don't know what is going on there.

You are most likely on an E5-2690 CPU, although I don't see why this information is really needed.

Re: need some info on specs of web site
I want to create a sub domain a php/mysql server able to accommodate 400GB of maps and support 2,000 users a day. So that is why I am inquiring. Is this possible with the system NFO provides.
Re: need some info on specs of web site
NFO doesn't really like file mirroring websites, like a map hosting website for example. By default download speeds of files larger than 200MB or so are limited to 50KB/s.
Only 2,000 users shouldn't be an issue, but disk/bandiwdth would be a concern here. I would wait for staff, or specifically John, to see if this is something he would want on the web hosting here.
I would probably just go ahead and buy a ~6 core VDS here for your use though, as you will be able to scale as you grow, and you obviously have dedicated resources instead of sharing them with other web hosting customers.

Wait a min here! 400 GB storage and 2,000 users a day. That makes me feel this has to be related to 17buddies somehow.recondesprayer wrote:I want to create a sub domain a php/mysql server able to accommodate 400GB of maps and support 2,000 users a day. According to NFO panel, the storage space is unlimited, yet I see a limit when I check info via putty. Just to make it clear, I did give you commands to check the storage and RAM in my first reply. Please give it another read.
The problem would be 2,000 users. Lite plan would not be able to handle it or will be pushing it big time. You can try Standard plan, if NFO can backup there claim of unlimited storage space.

Re: need some info on specs of web site
Thank-you for your post. Yes it is related to 17buddies and I don't want to see that site lost. If it is possible and it can be saved then why not? And yes we would have to up the plan to cover that much traffic.
Re: need some info on specs of web site
Websites do have unlimited disk space, but it must be for legitimate uses. Specifically our ToS say..
If you will be running a very large site or something that is going to require a lot of disk space we generally recommend going with a VDS. It's going to provide you with the customization and options you need.+ Use the webspace to hold content that is not meant to be commonly served to end-users through a web browser
+ "Mirror" or host files on behalf of another website

Re: need some info on specs of web site
I like that site too, but this is just the result of poor planning on their part. Site owners are simply asking for free web space to hold 400 GB worth of data, which is not really possible. There are tons of maps on that site which are mirror images of others, so nobody has taken the effort to delete them, which will subsequently reduce the storage space required.recondesprayer wrote:Thank-you for your post. In addition to all this, they are not ready to monetize the website. 2,000 users per day could mean decent ad revenue, if not in full it can at least cover about 50% of cost. Your best option here would be to rent a VDS and run a web server of it.
I would like to know, if you can add extra storage space on a VDS, linux single core, if possible. I'm not talking about SSD, but HDD with lets say 500 GB capacity?
Re: need some info on specs of web site
You cannot. The machines are built with the proportion of CPU:HDD in mind I would assume, so allowing say 500GB on a single core wouldn't leave enough for other VDS's.$atanic $pirit wrote:recondesprayer wrote: I would like to know, if you can add extra storage space on a VDS, linux single core, if possible. Re: need some info on specs of web site
I understand that, but if I can get a word from NFO team, that would be great.soja wrote: You cannot. The machines are built with the proportion of CPU:HDD in mind I would assume, so allowing say 500GB on a single core wouldn't leave enough for other VDS's.
Also, You failed at quoting me in your reply.

Re: need some info on specs of web site
We currently do not support adding additional HDD space to VDS's. We may eventually support doing so but it'd be something in the far future since it would require a complete change of the way we setup machines.
