Stupid yet simple question

when i go into a file like visudo and i edit what i want. how do i exit out i have looked at some tutorials about you have to hit exit then ::wq but when i hit exit i am still in edit mode can someone help?

P.S. this i a linux server using ubuntu.

After you finish editing, try hitting escape to exit editing mode, then type :wq and hit enter to save and exit.

didnt work i just get an error saying unkown command.

Have you tried simply using nano? Then you can use CTRL+X, then "y" and enter to save and exit.
