Starting Out- Amateur looking for suggestions

Hey guys, so I am semi new to all of this. By trade I am a history teacher, by hobby I am a gamer and starting to become a developer. To achieve this all my brothers and I (who I got interested into pursuing programming) have decided to make our own game studio on the side as well as to run some servers for ourselves and friends/clan. So we decided to order a vps with a website. I have taken a web design course about 7 years ago in high school so I am a bit rusty, and my brother who is learning programming has no experience with web design- so I have taken that on while he focuses on the actual programming. I am looking for any suggestions for amateur friendly web development sites/programs, I understand this will be a process and not an overnight thing, but I am more than willing to put in the time. Any ideas? Thanks!
