Help setting up a Rust server.

Post by jsockol22 »

Hello everyone,

I could really use some help. I feel that I'm just doing something wrong. Anyone know of any tutorials that work? I've tried what I could find but I just can't seem to get it working.

Thanks in advance, by the way, im trying to do a 100 slot public server.

I made the batch file the way I think I was supposed to and when I open that the cmd goes through all of its stuff loading in everything then i get an error saying "Couldn't load server/serveridentity/save/Procedural Map_4000_7294364/0.save - file does not exist" on the bottom on cmd it appears that the server is up and running showing server name 0/100 players time up fps ect.. but I'm not sure I think I'm lost.

That just means the save couldn't be loaded, so the server generates a new one. Sever should still work just fine though.

What happens if you connect directly via console using "client.connect IP:port"?

You can see the IP that was assigned to your VDS via the "IP list" tab in your control panel.

Okay now thats the IP for the game server aswell? And another question is I'm trying to get RCON set up do I make up a port number for that or is there a designated one?

Yes, that would be the IP for the game server as well. As for RCON, you can just set those values to the server port/ip.

Okay, so RCON port and Server port can be the same thing?

So I'm sorry, but i've got +rcon.port 28016 +rcon.password ***** but i'm still unable to connect to the server with the Rusty rcon tool. Any ideas? Says the server is either offline(its not people on it now) or info is wrong but its the same info in the batch file.

Did you also define +rcon.ip "" on the command line?
