Installing MySQL&PhpMyAdmin

Post by codyhawkinz »

Hello!

I'm having an issue with installing MySQL and PhpMyAdmin on my unmanaged VDS.
I've followed this guide:
https://www.digitalocean.com/community/ ... -on-ubuntu

Which really didn't work out, so I contacted live support with the following message:
Hello! I'm trying to install MySQL/PhpMyAdmin. My friend told me to follow these instructions:
https://www.digitalocean.com/community/ ... -on-ubuntu

Which worked perfectly fine for him on his VPS, but not with me. After each command it tells me to do "apt-get -f install" which doesn't help at all (I tried it). I stopped at the part where it says that I have to write mysql_install_db but as I don't have MySQL installed, because it doesn't work, I can't do that.

I have no idea what to do.

Best Regards,
Cody
Which was then a result of getting another link which was apparently more recommended than the one I linked, although the commands are exactly the same, only the text content is phrased differently. (http://www.nfoservers.com/forums/viewto ... 46&t=11140)
Which thereafter gave me the exact same results as the previous link (Obviously).

Anyone who might know why this isn't working out?

PS. The operating system is Ubuntu 14.10 x64 (Linux).

Best Regards,
Cody

A member of the support team suggested tasksel, which seemed to be very easy/simple, which as far as I know, it should be. But this is what came up when I tried it:

Code: Select all

root@optimuslogin:/# tasksel install lamp-server
tasksel: aptitude failed (100)
