ARK server not showing on steam

Post by Stony »

What transpired before the issue

I added TCadmin and linked it to WHMCS.

I added security updates from .net 3.5

I rebooted and noticed the TC admin connect using aboout 10k/b

Users were unable to find the server on the server list, and several were unable to connect at all even with a direct link.

I removed TCadmin, killed the link from WHMCS, and rebooted the machine which seems to have fixed the problem.

Could TCadmin have had anything to do with it or was this a strange fluke?

I had users run tracert and some completed and others timed out - neither were able to join until after the reboot.

Any insight into how i should troubleshoot this would be greatly appreciated!

I wouldn't expect TCA to play a role here, but it's possible upon installing and linking it to the server it caused some type of problem. Did you try rebooting the server after installing TCA to see if that made a difference?

I did restart the machine after installing TCadmin, the problems started happening hours after the reboot.

When i checked the network usage during some of the issues the activity was much higher then i ever see it

1 server and tcadmin was around 10/mb and there was no update taking place.

How many people were in the server at the time? I wouldn't say 10Mbps is too high, especially if the server was active.

This started happening again, and again TCadmin network usage was higher then usual.

IDK how to fix, it starts out fine and on steam, then a few hours later it disseapers and changes to "waiting for publication"

This never happened on my VDS and it used the exact same setup minus TCadmin

Are you running any firewall on the VDS which may be blocking the connection? Also, did you set the server up manually or did you use some type of tool to do it?

I did use a tool to install and run the server - I have from the beginning - I'm configuring FireDaemon right now so it will no longer be run through the other program.

It's a dedicated machine not a VDS if that is of any importance.

No firewall

As a test I'd recommend doing a manually install just to see if the same problem occurs.

Performed a manual install.

Also started running the server with firedaemon.

But the strange lag/choking that starts happening is still happening.

Is there any sort of of method I can use to diagnose if this is purely the game acting up?

I haven't found any evidence there is a widespread problem with this

There really isn't much you can do to actually diagnose performance issues as there just isn't any values or settings available to us, yet. Is the server maxing out a core by chance? Also, is there enough ram available for it? How about dino count? Are you running the server at anything over x1.5 dino count?

I'm not maxing out any cores really. One hovers around 80/90%, the other 3 stay under 50%(one nearly nothing).

This is what i'm observing right now which is with only 7 players. (Normally there are 20 or so on during the day 30+ at peak)

I recently started using fire daemon - I bound the process to 4 cores.

I also returned the global decomposition multiplier to default.

I had doubled it previously and I think that having so many items on the ground could be causing an issue. (Dropping a ton of stuff on the ground)

Will follow up

Defaulting the global decomposition multplier seems to have fixed the problem.

I noticed the dead npc count dropped quite a bit.

Up to 20 players atm and no issues.

Thanks again kraze, not the first time you've helped me out.
