Installing Mybb (A Few Questions Related to Webhosting)

Post by lpj »

So far, I've used my Webserver on NFO for Fast DL on Garry's Mod but I now need to setup a forum. I looked around a bit and decided that I wanted to try using Mybb for the forum. The issue is that I can't figure out how to get to the install page after uploading the files and changing the necessary permissions. To be honest, I'm not even sure if I'm adding it to the correct folder.

So essentially what I'm trying to figure out is what folder should I be adding the forum software to and how exactly can I direct a url to the folder containing mybb? Within that same question, how does the directory system work (don't know the exact name but the piece of a url after, say .com/) as in if I wanted to direct www.example.com/fast to the fastdl folder I use for gmod?

I'm sorry if these questions have obvious answers but I can't seem to find a thread that addresses these issues and I'm fairly new at this.

How to install can vary from forum software to forum software, but generally speaking, after you've installed it you just need to point your domain to the installation folder, In most cases this would just be yourdomain.com/install. Unless you've modified your site you would want to place these forum files inside of the "public" folder. The directory system is actually pretty simple. Wherever you have your domain pointed would be considered the root directory. So, if your domain has been configured via the domains tab in your control panel to point to "public", that folder is your root and is automatically assumed when loading the domain. In your case you seem to be using the website as a fastdl server, and I'm going to assume you're using a second folder inside of public called "fastdl". If that's the case your fastdl url would just be yourdomain.com/fastdl.

Wow, I was seriously over thinking this and failing to realize how simple it really is. To make sure that I fully understand, essentially I just have to set the main page (by putting @ in the Subdomain field and public in the Target field, assuming I want to use the public folder) and all of the folders and files within it fall into the index/directory portion of the link.
