Outbound packet loss and high latency in BF4

Post by Red27 »

Hi, for the past two+ months i've been having this problem with outbound packet loss making it so i can barely play these games without lagging all over the place. I've tried everything i can think of to fix this and my ISP hasn't been any help. I have TWC and managed to get escalated to their tier 3 tech support and what they've told me is that the problem isn't on their end and there is nothing they can do. I showed them the trace route graphs and they said that the problem is occurring on a server/router that they do not manage and have no power to fix.

Just figured i'd post here too to try and get some clarification on this, it really sucks paying $90 a month for internet and not being able to play my favorite online games

here are some trace routes i did that show the problem:

You live near me, and I am having a similar issue. I have been talking to twc for over a month and a half, have had the cable drop to my house replaced, and got a new modem. The 2 techs I had out here on the 10th said they would have line maintenance come out on Monday(to check the lines on the poles). He gave me the number for his supervisor if that still doesn't fix the issue.

Here are some of my outbound MTRs. Notice the extremely high "Worst" values. These happen for a second or less, just enough to interrupt gameplay.

I have had TWC out here 4 times for this issue, thankfully I think I will get somewhere after Line Maintenance comes out today. I plan to contact the techs supervisor around Wednesday.

The issue can be measured inbound to my home as well:

Hopefully when I get mine fixed, it will be fixed for you too.

Do you have access to a Linux machine on your LAN? The MTR tool for Linux is much better IMO.

As a quick update to this, after 2 months I finally got my connection fixed. Turned out to be a problem in the amp that supplied my house. The Line Maintenance tech was able to detect it quickly and have everything up and running within about 30min.

I don't know if it is the same exact issue for you, but keep jumping through Time Warner's hoops, prove it is not your equipment, and they will eventually get the issue escalated to the right people that can find and fix the problem.

I was able to completely rule out my home equipment by hooking up a pc with a brand new Linux install, with nothing running except default programs directly up to the modem. If that still shows high latency/packet loss then try to get the modem replaced. You can do this in-person at any TWC office/store as long as you have the account holder with you. If you still see the issue, let the techs know and after verifying all of your house wiring, they will get Line Maintenance out there for you.

Good luck, hope you have a quicker resolution than me!
