Hi,
I installed ubuntu 15.04 on my VDS and I also installed the ubuntu desktop on the VDS as well. When I logged in to the VDS for the first time, I was able to login as the root user. However, after I installed the ubuntu desktop visual system onto the VDS, I was not able to login as root user. The system would only offer me the option of logging in as a guest. I was not able to use to root commands while I was logged in as guest and also there were no amdinistrator/root user in the list of user accounts when I looked at the user accounts list. How can I make this work so that it does not delete the root user when I goto install the ubuntu desktop?
Thanks.
I loose root access after installing ubuntu desktop..

Are you still able to use SSH and log in as root?
Re: I loose root access after installing ubuntu desktop..
[SOLVED] After installing ubuntu-desktop I still had sudo access as I was still at the command prompt. So all I did was create a new user with: sudo adduser username
and then after I rebooted the VDS I was presented with the option of logging on with that username instead of guest. One odd thing I noticed was that I was still able to ssh into the server as root user eventhough the gui only let me login as guest and displayed an empty user list in the settings panel. Perhaps that was because it was locked. In any case, I am good to go.
Thanks for the reply Edge100x.
