Host MyBB Website and MYSQL on VDS

Hello NFO customers!
I've been hosting with NFO for quite awhile now, I was never too pleased with the speeds of their shared websites, and so, I resorted to other companies who proved to be even worse. I'm now coming back to NFO and wish to purchase a VDS in their Chicago location in order to host a website (MyBB) on it, along with three MYSQL databases that will be used 24/7.
I've never had to install anything remotely related to a website or MySQL from scratch, I always used managed hosts in which it was as simple as clicking a button to download PHPMyAdmin/MySQL in order to install a website, then drag your content onto public_html.

Would anybody be able to point me at a tutorial explaining how to do just that? I haven't got the slightest clue as to what operating system I should go with either.

Any assistance will be greatly appreciated!

The MYSQL website will be used to connect to my garry's mod server - it is currently the second largest server in Garry's Mod and I am averaging 52 connected users at all times, so I am expecting very high traffic.
