Friend cannot connect to my VDS

Post by Aldro »

Hello!

I have a VDS from NFO that is unmanaged and I run a Jedi Academy server on this machine.

I run a 100 man clan and each member can play fine on it except for one individual. He cannot connect to our game server nor can he even see it being online. And in the past month, we have also had four others having similar issues. Two of them I was able to solve by whitelisting their IPs onto our mitigation tables. The third however did not resolve after doing this. Rather he claims the problem simply got resolved on his own after some time.

And the fourth also cannot connect despite me having added him to the whitelist in the mitigation tables. Does anyone have any idea why this could be? He can connect to other servers hosted by NFO so I do not believe there is an issue between the providers communicating between one another. Or is it perhaps still possible that there is some routing issue on his part?

Thank you for any advice you may have!

First step would be getting him to run a traceroute/mtr to your server IP address. This should let you know where a routing problem is, if there is one.

Thanks! And if infact the issue lies within the machine itself, how can that be despite a whitelist in the mitigation table?

Is your VDS Linux or windows? Can you screenshot your firewall tab in your control panel?

Are you refering to my controlpanel on NFO? Because I do the whitelisting through putty. Not really sure if I can do it through the CP. It is Linux.

EDIT: added link to firewall on CP but I have never really touched anything there => http://puu.sh/oPPdl/bb07a5269c.png

Can you screenshot the output of iptables -L?

Why are you whitelisting through the firewall at all?

Because we use this for "Getstatus, getinfo, getchallenge floods":
https://jkhub.org/tutorials/article/187 ... ion/page-4

And it is known to have accidentally blocked people from connecting to the server sometimes. But a whitelist here does tend to solve that issue with the exception of this person.

Here is the output:

Do you want the rest of it too? (Like 3 more pages)

A tracert is a good idea.

Did you also already check with us to make sure that he isn't blocked on our end?

Yes, there was no issue there. Thanks.

So a quick update!

He can see the servers now all of the sudden but he seems unable to join them due to "Awaiting challenge or gamestate". He also did a tracert which came back without any hiccups.

I am inclined to believe its unrelated to the network but alas I am not sure. For now we are adopting a wait and see approach, perhaps it will resolve itself similar to how he suddenly sees the servers. If anyone has any clue otherwise, just let me know.

Thanks!
