Unable to connect to RDC

Just got server last night.. Unable to connect to anything except PuTTy terminal.. nothing else.. I must be missing something and cannot get to desptop. Debian Jessie

Are you trying to connect to your Linux VDS using RDP? If so, that wouldn't work, you'd have to use SSH only.

Even if the server control tab states "You should always use Remote Desktop/SSH instead of VNC for general administration. " and i still cant use a remote desktop???

and using a VPS

The page says you should use "Remote Desktop/SSH" for remote administration because every OS that we have an autoinstaller for supports one of those two mechanisms. A forward slash means "or" in this case -- you'll be able to use one or the other, depending on what you install.

Debian does not support Remote Desktop. It does support SSH.

Ok i'm looking for help with setting up the Desktop/GUI on the server so i can VNC to the server or connect to it and install software that needs desktop to get up and going. Anybody know the process or information to get that going. All help would be greatly appreciated!!

I'm not 100% sure if it applies on Debian server, but have you tried running "tasksel" as root and selecting the option to install a desktop?

That seems to be working, it is installing now. Now research time for the rest of things needed...
