VPS upgraded (RAM & CPU), but MySQL performance hasn't improved

Hi everyone, I just upgraded my VPS plan from 2GB RAM to 8GB RAM and from 1 Core to 4 Cores to better support a web application running on MySQL.

However, after the upgrade, I noticed that the page load speeds haven't really improved at all. When I check htop, both the CPU and RAM usage look very low with plenty of free resources.

Did I miss a specific configuration step to make the application 'recognize' or utilize this new hardware power? Or does a hardware upgrade simply not have a direct impact on database performance without manual tuning? I'd appreciate any advice on which settings I should look into!

How much it will help depends on your workload. Is the problem slow individual page loads caused by lengthy single MySQL queries? If so, you'd need to concentrate on investigating and optimizing those queries, instead. Using a utility like 'mytop' to see what queries are running in real-time and explain them is a good next step.

Adding more CPUs and RAM will mostly help if you have many threads running at the same time (concurrently).
