Hybrid/Optimized LA?

Post by sleeper »

What Server (specs) are Optimized LA servers run on? I personally gave ips of optimized and hybrid servers to a guy who lives in la and he said the hybrid had a constant 20, while optimized had constant 30. It didnt seem right but then again I dont have any difference from optimized to hybrid. Yes, the hybrid was better. I would like to know what kind of servers the optimized ones are. I do not think it is fair that on the website it says some servers are run on Dual Opteron (better than any xeon!) but mine is still run on xeon with 1.5 GB of ram. As airlines like southwest/united would tell you, keeping everything the same means easier maintenence fixes. Thanks.

Optimized LA and Hybrid LA servers are run on the same machines. The only difference is in the type of bandwidth.

Having different speeds of machines does not make maintenance any harder for us because we very rarely have hardware failures. Even if we did, computer hardware is very standard.

Airlines don't toss away old airplanes when a new model comes out. By the same token, we don't throw away our old machines when a new model comes out. So while we purchase exclusively dual Opteron 246's right now, we will continue to use our older dual Xeons.

You may be under the impression that faster machines mean less lag. That's not necessarily the case. Sometimes putting a server on a "slower" machine will cause less lag because the "slower" machine has a lower load. That said, if you do have a strong preference for a particular type of machine, you can always specifically request to be moved.

Also, make sure that the IPs you gave your friend are both for accelerated, or both for non-accelerated, servers.

My server seems to run great. I wouldnt mind knowing how many other servers are on it. I would request any server that has very little load. Thanks.
