This is used for general discussion that is not necessarily server-related.

why not linux?

Post by Seanzer »

As far as I know, most of the games nfo hosts have servers available on linux. Also, afaik, as of this moment, linux has the best support for the opteron platform. So, how come linux servers aren't used for the games that are available for linux? Wouldn't that cut down on the cost for using Windows?

My guess is the control panels and maybe there's some performance advantage I'm unaware of.

Interested in all comments, plz respond :D

I would prefer to use Linux, personally. It's much easier to code for. But, we do what we have to do.

A: No, at least not yet. HLDS running under Linux performs worse (i.e., uses significantly more CPU power, gives higher pings, and makes for less stable pings) than HLDS under win32.
But wouldnt HLDS 64bit run better then 32bit? Hence linux being better?
