use a browser such as IE (firefox doesnt work), and go to file manager of your control panel, click on the FTP link

click and drag or copy/paste the bsp files into the maps folder, wads go into main directory, sounds, sprites, materials, etc go into their respective directory

when you download a custom map it should have its own structure, such as folders, keep that structure intact when uploading and it will be fine :)

If it has the exact same name as the map file (such as cs_assault.bsp and cs_assault.txt) then that is the in game map describtion and goes in the maps folder with the .bsp files. If its a readme/info file then its nothing important and you can just delete it. Read whats in the file if you aren't sure.

uploading maps through the control panel

Post by butler »

Ok this sounds complicated, cant I just use the browse button on my file manager, to upload a map from my computer? And if so do I have to get them from my steam directory, or just my cstrike maps folder?
Also, do I have to direct all of the sprites and everthing, cant I just upload it the same way I do it when I down load a map for my computer at home?

Unfortunately the uploader in the control panel will not support the file types needed for maps. Its mainly for .txt files, .cfg files, etc. There is a link on the file manager that takes you to your FTP, where you can upload any file.

The only reason you download all of the map files when you join a server is because of the .res files, which dont exist on the client machine. So no, you would need to make sure every file the map needs is uploaded properly. It takes a little more work to be a server administrator than just an average player .

Would more money help?

I dont want to be a server administrator, I thought that is what i was paying NFO for hahahahaha. JP/
Anyhow is there a reason the client cant have those files added to it? I would really like to just be able to pay for the service of having my files uploaded for me. Lets just put it this way, I still cant figure out how to slap instead of slay somone from the amxmodmenu, when I click on that or select the number, instead of slapping ......somone gets slayed. That is how newbish I am.

But if I have to do it I will try......whats the worst that could happen? I crash the server, then request it to be restarted, and remove the files right.

There's no way to use a .res file on the client because its really the Server program that reads those files and then tells the server to upload the map files to the client.
We have numerous "auto-uploading" things in the control panel, like the instant installation of mods, but having a section for maps isnt really feasible due to the huge number of custom maps avaliable for CS. We did do our best to pre-install alot of the more popular maps. (listed here)
In the worst case scenario, you will upload the map and the server will crash when it tries to load it. If this happens, you can either wait ~15 minutes untill the server is automatically restarted, OR go to your control panel and STOP then START it yourself (a normal restart wont work in this case).
