phpBB question

Post by [SU]Magikfingers »

Hey -

I'm trying to set up phpBB on NFO. I currently have it up and running on another host, and I'm trying to transfer the database. What I'm doing is doing a full backup on the other host, then trying to restore it on this host.

However, it hangs during upload, or it uploads, then it doesn't do anything with it.

The back up is about 14 megs, so it's not incredibly huge - any ideas? I'm kind of under a time crunch here.

Thnks

Hmm, that's something that I've never done so I'm not sure how much help I can provide. You're using the latest version of phpbb?

Yeah - 2.0.4 is what's installed - it's coming from 2.0.1

Make sure that the versions match before you export and import. That would present a problem. ;)

So that's it - I'm screwed then? I don't understand - how could they have changed a database enough that from .0.1 -> .0.4 there's enough difference that the database won't read?

grrr.. I've got a LOT of people that are going to be royally pissed.

Upgrading phpBB is easy. You could upgrade your old forums; or, you could just install the old version on your nfo site, and then upgrade after the import.

Well - contact with the old forums was broken today - so all I have is my last backup of the database.

Where can I get the older version of phpbb? Any ideas? Also - I was told that installing phpMyAdmin would make it work - any comments on that?

Ok - found the older version. Removed 2.0.4 - installed 2.0.1 - now when I try to fill out the installation screen, I hit submit, and get this error:

An error has occurred during installation
An error occurred trying to update the database
Table 'phpbb_auth_access' already exists

I sent you (Edge) an e-mail about this .. but have gotten no response. My forums are completely down and I need to get this moving asap. :-( I hate being a pest, but ...

Thanks

Remember, I (Edge) usually can't check my emails until the evening due to the fact that the Army works me hard.

I believe there is a utility to uninstall phpbb and remove all tables. Or, you could use a different prefix, such as "forums" instead of "phpbb" and just let both stay there. Or, you could drop all the old phpbb tables.

Okay - got past that error - but it still won't import the database.

Hmm, is their website and/or support forums any help?

No - someone said something about installing MyphpAdmin or something like that.. I have no idea what that is. And from what I read and understand (I may be wrong here, I don't know) it's something the server has to have installed on it.

And to be honest, I don't even know how to manipulate the tables and whatnot. I'm probably going to have to just give it up and start from scratch.

Can you get a direct database export from your old host? If you could get them to export the tables to .sql files for you, I could import them manually.

I have a database export from my old host - I went in through the administration panel, and did a full backup.

Other than that - I have no access to my old stuff.

k, if those are .sql files, email them my way and I'll see what I can do.
