Setting up SVN Repository

Hi,

I'm trying to set up an SVN repository. Problem is, I don't really know what I'm doing, and the tutorials I could find are... lacking. I created the main SVN directory (I think) but I can't create a hierarchy for my project, or upload it. I've tried svn import (which disconnects me from the server) and svn mkdir, which throws an error. I'm using WinSCP. Is there something else I need to do?
