Limited Download Speed via HTTP/FTP
Hello.
I'm currently renting a VPS through NFO, and on this VPS I'm running an Apache (2.4.4) server via WAMPServer + a FileZilla FTP server. Files I try to download via HTTP & FTP are usually capped at 200 kb/s maximum (average seems to be around 150 kb/s). I'm from Norway and the VPS is hosted in San Jose and I did suspect the high latency to be the culprit of this issue. That was until I asked my friend that lives on the east coast. I asked him to do a ping test and he got 72 ms ping average, but the same download speed as I had (between 120 kb/s-200 kb/s). The odd thing is, a download via HTTP from another NFO-hosted VPS (this one is located in Seattle), at that point my download speed was upto around 1200 kb/s (1.2 mb/s).
Some other notes:
Transfer speed from my VPS to another VPS hosted in San Jose - Full download speed, took me a few seconds to download the file.
A few of my other friends have tested with the same download (some in Norway, one in NZ and a few others in the US) - They got the same result (150 kb/s average download speed).
I suspect it might be Apache/WAMP causing this issue. Although, I wanted to ask here and see if you have seen this before.
If you want to, you can test the download through this link: http://antroxaperture.com/worldzips/November12_2013.7z.
Thanks in advance.

Re: Limited Download Speed via HTTP/FTP
I have seen this issue before(and I experienced it) with the WAMP install of apache, however I live on east coast(USA) and I am downloading at 600+ KB/s

Re: Limited Download Speed via HTTP/FTP
I forgot to ask my friend (from the EC) what his speed was at the time. That could've been the issue, but it was still limited to the whole 150 kb/s avg. deal that I don't understand anything of.
I did another test with XAMPP and the same issue seems to occur (at least for myself, haven't tested with other people). I'm starting to assume it's Apache's fault, but after searching a lot I haven't found anything that has helped me fix it.
Any help/tips would be appreciated.
And thanks soja, for testing the download.

Re: Limited Download Speed via HTTP/FTP
Any reason you are using apache over IIS? IIS can be a bit frustrating with MIME types etc, but it is so easy to install php(using their web platform installer) and it runs natively on windows.

Re: Limited Download Speed via HTTP/FTP
It was mostly because I've used Apache (with WAMP) before, and that I have experience with it. I should probably just install MySQL + PHP with IIS.
Re: Limited Download Speed via HTTP/FTP
Its pretty easy to install php, and yeah I think it would be better to go with IIS over apache(and WAMP) on windows.

Re: Limited Download Speed via HTTP/FTP
There have been several other threads posts here in the forum about performance problems with Apache on Windows. I recommend switching to Linux if you wish to continue running Apache.
Re: Limited Download Speed via HTTP/FTP
I think I'll go with IIS instead then.
Thanks for the help I've gotten from you guys. Appreciate it!

You're welcome, if you need any help with IIS just ask

Re: Limited Download Speed via HTTP/FTP
I will (most likely) contact you if I need any help. What's the best way of doing so? Through the forums (PM for example) or anything else?
Re: Limited Download Speed via HTTP/FTP
Forums would be the best method.

@Juski> You said I had a valid point! You can't take it back now! It's out there!

Alright, thanks! I know who to contact if I get any issues trying to set it up.
