Could I please get some assistance in setting up my website?

What specifically do you need help with? What type of site are you trying to run?

Just setting it up. When I click the address...it just goes to a file page of some sort...

Ok, sounds like you need to upload the files.

What type of site are you looking to run? Blog, gaming forum, something else?

Before anyone could help, you must answer what are you using to construct your site. It could be SMF, Mybb or vbulletin. Of course there are many more options, but since you say you are creating homepage it seems you are through that step.

By home page what do you mean, do you have an example? Do you mean a page with news articles etc kind of like what exists here: http://gflclan.com/

Yes exactly.

Just a simple home page where I can add text and such then a tab to click on that says: "Forums"

Then install your forum in the "forum" folder after you create it.
Upload your forum files into it, create a db, and follow the instructions for installation.

Once the forum is up, ou can go back and create your main page (index).

I suggest using a portal plugin for SMF. It will give you an article section for your home page, and it is simple to install and manage. Here is a link to one I have used in the past(IPB is paid software and we use that now). http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/i ... p?mod=1104

There are a ton of CMS's available. Look around and figure out what is best for you. Also depends on whether you want a free cms or a paid for premium cms. All up to you. The CMS we use is a free cms called e107. It works for our needs.
