Should I use a VPS or Dedicated Server
Hello, I want to make a gaming server including: Teamspeak, website, three gaming servers or more. I was wondering if I should use a VPS or Dedicated server.
Things I will be running
Garry's mod 2+ servers
Maybe rust 1 server
Maybe Minecraft 1 server
Teamspeak
Website
What should I use?

A VPS would be fine for this and allow you to scale up as you grow.
If you want to run large gmod servers(like 50+ players per server) you may need a dedi to handle the single threaded performance requirements.

Yes, I plan on having 50-80 players per server, without lag. Could you link me to a possible option that can cover all this without issues?
Re: Should I use a VPS or Dedicated Server
Any dedicated server, or an 8+ core VDS(if you plan on having gmod/rust/mc/site all on 1 machine).
If you need servers that can handle over 50 players, no VDS plan will cut it for you. You will be limited to around 50 players at 16 tick for good performance. Dedis have much higher single threaded performance, and thus can handle ~70 players without lag.
We run a 70 slot Purge server at 22 tick with near perfect performance on the E3-1271v3(fastest) machine.

Re: Should I use a VPS or Dedicated Server
I have a 4-core VDS with 6 GB of RAM. I am running only 1 Rust server. That's literally it.
Usually with ~50 players, my CPU usage is around 35-40%, RAM usage is around 60%, give or take.
We've had a few crashes, but that would be discouraging if it's because of the player count.
Are you saying that I can't handle 50? 60? 100?
How are some of these people running 100 slot servers and not crashing? Full dedicated machines?
That's a boner killer if so, not that I blame you guys.

It heavily varies per game. Rust/MC wouldn't be too much of an issue, even at higher player counts, but Garry's mod can definitely get very piggy.elninost0rm wrote:I have a 4-core VDS with 6 GB of RAM. I plan on running only 1 Rust server. That's literally it.

@Kraze^NFo> Juski has a very valid point
@Juski> Got my new signature, thanks!

@Juski> You said I had a valid point! You can't take it back now! It's out there!

Thanks for the insight.

I'm sure the crashes are just random. They've been few and far between.
Also, would upgrading my core count on the VDS package help with Rust CPU usage? I'm guessing no but thoughts welcome.
Re: Should I use a VPS or Dedicated Server
Since most games are single threaded more cores doesn't help reduce load, but it can allow you to run more servers and can help if your current CPU is being overloaded.

That's what I thought but I was just making sure.
Thanks for the help. Hopefully the server continues to be stable.
