What VDS should I use for Starmade

Post by XxXNocturnalistXxX »

I am looking into renting a VDS for a starmade server 100 slots, does anyone have any experience with starmade servers that could tell me what VDS package would best support this, Also starmade would be running vanilla.

A second question also, I might want to run a space engineers server (running vanilla also) at a later date when planets are released, 50 slot + if possible, can someone also give me any suggestions on that for a VDS please?

I can't specifically comment on the resource usage for these games, but with a VDS I'd recommend you always start small and upgrade later if needed since the upgrade process is easy and fairly quick. Try starting with a two core and put a single server online and monitor CPU usage, if it routinely reaches 50% you may need to upgrade.

@Juski> You said I had a valid point! You can't take it back now! It's out there!

If your requirement is Windows, you will be starting off with a 2 core. ($20)
If your requirement is Linux, you can start off with a single core ($8)

Should you require (which you more than probably will) more resources, you can upgrade as need be. Just know, that is a special price for single core linux. If you upgrade to 2 core linux, it will be the regular price ($20). The $8 is just a great start if that's what you're looking for, and want to test the performance of the server. It is restricted to linux, but of course if you need windows, you can upgrade to a 2 core and change the OS.

Personally, I recommend going with a 2 core either way. Plus, you get a 2 day free trial (if you've never set up an account before).
