Ryzen?

Post by rymax99 »

Any plans to add Ryzen chips to the lineup? I didn't see any topics about this, so I figured I'd ask!

I haven't seen good multi-node enclosures for Ryzen-based machines, yet, unfortunately. This makes them a bit impractical for us -- that would make prices higher, and limit our ability to roll them out in volume. But it is something that I will have to look at in more depth.

Hey, came across this thread. Wonder if anything has changed in the past few years, would be cool to have Ryzen lineup.

There has not been a large rollout, but there are a couple of AMD machines at some locations, for some uses. Options for them are still very limited.

We have a few 5950X machines that become available from time to time, and we use some AMD processors for VDSes. We've found that Ryzen machines have worse server performance than Intel, at least for game servers. It's not a lot worse, but it's enough to make Intels a better choice most of the time. The main exception is when running lots of servers that don't need high single-threaded performance -- the extra cores on Ryzen can help in that case.
