Processors

Hi all,

I was wondering what type of processors are on your machines, the reason why I ask is because when i first signed up for a server, I signed up because of the server sale and all of the features we get for signing up that was listed on the home page. I have just noticed in my server control panel under server health that my processors are Dual AMD Opteron 244 processors. On the home page of NFO, it says that I'm supposed to get Dual Opteron 280 (dual-core) processors. I get alot of complaints since i had my server about lag. Yet they also say that there ping is low as well as mine but some how there is lag sometimes.

I also noticed when typing stats under the console, that cpu usage goes up to 50% and above sometimes and the sever fps drops below 75fps and sometimes lower(20fps)sometimes. I have a 32 player server and when it gets full people from time to time will complain of lag. I've played on alot of nfo servers in the past and always never seen anyone complain of lag on the server as much as mine. Any of you guys have problems of lag?

I think my server has only lagged once, and it was for about 1 min, and then it was fine. i also run on internap though. It has to do with the Hybrid servers i think, not to sure.

The front page says:

Our fastest machines have: (all machines are fully company-owned and not rented or leased)
            Dual Opteron 280 (dual-core) processors
            10,000 RPM hard drives
            4 GB PC3200 registered ECC RAM

Which only means that these are the absolute newest machines that we are buying.
We have dozens of older machines in the inventory, but just because they're older doesnt mean they are inferior in all aspects. As long as a machine isnt overloaded, they are identical from a gameserver's point of view.
On the speed/locations page, we list our machines of lowest spec, meaning all machines are at least as good as those (and most are much, much better). Dual AMD Opteron 244 machines aren't the latest machines we buy, but at one point they were. Without being 100% sure, I would say that the Dual 244 system is better than or equal to what you'll find at most any other GSP.

Anyway, back to your individual server. 32 player servers can be tough, especially if there are any number of 3rd party mods/addons running. If you contact us either by email or through the Live chat system in your control panel, we will be able to take further action in investigating the problem and finding solutions.

What about the server fps dropping below 20 fps sometimes? And the cpu usage being over 50% sometimes? Is that normal? If possible can I be moved to a newer machine to eliminate some possibilities of lag being that mine is a 32 person server?

Stats in console shows your own client's stats, not the server's stats. When entering stats into the console, you are getting your own FPS and CPU usage at that particular time. The CPU reading isn't that accurate in my experience.

You shouldn't need to be moved to a new server, you can check your machine's CPU usage on the control panel's server health page. If you have further questions about this, please visit live chat on the control panel so we can look at your server specifically.
