ping for servers

Post by trevor »

For the cod2 servers I ping better to a Dallas server than 2 a Denver by 15 ping in a server, even though denver is half the distance? I looking seriously into buying a server and im looking for the best pings. Is Denver routed through Chicago? :(

It all depends on how your ISP peers with the major backbones, then from there to a particular location like Dallas or Denver. You can run a tracert to get your actual route. If the Dallas location pings well for you, then I would probably go with that as thats a popular spot for scrims and matches. If not, we could possibly look into your route and see if you can be rerouted to Denver if thats what you want. It might be just the way your ISP routes itself to the tier1 backbones.

Pings are not always the most reliable due to their inconsitent routing depending on the ISP. You can use trace routing instead. Start > run > cmd > tracert <server ip/hostname> - it will give you a detailed look at how many ms each hop (node) takes. Maybe the distance is less but there are more nodes. :-D. Thanks.
