Sourcebans Firewall Issue

Post by darkvortex »

I am having some problems getting sourcebans to work on my gameserver hosted on my VPS. I poked a rcon hole for the hosted.nfoservers.com ip but I am suspecting you are doing some load balancing on your web-servers so that may not be the ip of the machine trying to connect can I get the ip's or the range so that I can include that in my firewall rule?

I should mention RCON works just fine from the HLSTASX Perl Daemon and remote RCON access similarly ip restricted.

Your Sourcebans install should be the one initiating the connection, so it's more about where you're connecting to. If you're connecting to hosted.nfoservers.com, then blanket allowing any traffic to or from that IP should work.

What is the error message that it is giving you?

Well it pulls down the admins fine. The plugin talks to the db from what I can see and pulls down the new admins however when you try and do thing from the web-panel like rehashing admins or executing an rcon command it says it cannot connect.

Ah, ok, so the web panel is initiating that connection.

I'd recommend allowing 208.146.35.0/24 and 206.253.195.194. This should clear that up.

Yup that did it. Thanks so much. Also I cannot tell you how much happier we are now that we switched to windows(shocking as that sounds for a server)

Aye, for HL1 and HL2 servers, our testing agrees with what you've found. Generally, Windows has lower CPU usage and higher performance in the default configuration.

A base Windows install uses more memory than a base CentOS or Gentoo install though, correct?

Figured that. Memory is the lower of priorities on VPS's though. I always have tons of memory, cpu is the killer.
