I believe this was a topic already so sorry if im repeating but i thought it was for windows and not linux,
Is there a way to see fps in a console like windows hlds shows how many fps the server is getting?

Re: Fps console
Yes, it should show in the upper-left-hand corner of the console window.
Re: Fps console
Yes, mine does not, in the terminal correct? because if so is there a command youre supposed to type in in the terminal line when exec the hlds
Re: Fps console
I'm sorry, for some reason I was thinking this was about Windows, even though you are clearly running Linux.
On Linux, you can find something somewhat close to the FPS with the "stats" command. However, it will show a number that is incorrect. For an accurate value, you'll need to use "stats" through an rcon tool such as HLSW.

Re: Fps console
wow 333 fps, is there a way to increase the the server feels way higher then 333 fps, if you could help me out that would be great i know its possible to surpass 1000 fps with linux
Re: Fps console
Did you set it up according to this guide? http://www.nfoservers.com/forums/viewto ... =46&t=4163
HL1 servers can't go past 1000fps.

Re: Fps console
If it's a public server, I found 500FPS is more ideal. Uses less resources and should leave you enough left over to run a private server at 1000FPS.

Re: Fps console
I mean i know enough and am fimiliar enough with linux to do what im doing and i have hear linux is alooot better then windows when hosting servers id it true or no, windows is more user friendly but linux runs a whole lot better
Re: Fps console
That's not really true, no. Linux is more flexible in terms of scripting, and people like it because it's free and cool (partially because it's more difficult to use, partially because it's just not Windows), but quite frankly, most game servers run better overall on Windows.
We use Linux for our "ultraaccelerated" servers here because we can modify the kernel to provide much more stable FPS rates than on Windows, and higher ones as well. However, most server operators can't do that. Without the modifications, Linux runs servers about as reliably as Windows, but they use more CPU power.
If you're testing with CentOS, on thing you might try is moving to Gentoo. The kernel we include with Gentoo installs is better than the CentOS one at achieving high FPS rates.

Re: Fps console
wow thanks for the info, ill try that im install win server 2008 right now gonna test it out i mean i was using cent and it was getting reall nice registration, but that was at just 333 fps, im gonna try and push 1000 on windows , but i know that fluxes from like 600-1000, so you would say the most stable is gentoo fps stable wise and is it hard to edit kernals
Re: Fps console
Stability-wise, either Win2k8 or Gentoo should be very good, if you follow the guides. I don't have much data on which would be more stable, but both should attain a pretty solid 950+fps.
The CPU usage difference between Windows and Linux won't have too much of an affect on stability unless you are using a significant amount of CPU.
IMO, Linux works better than Windows for non-game-server things, like webserving.

Oh i got you, ya ive always noticed tho like servers that have regged amazing for me shots wise in cs have been linux servers, i was also wondering how long it takes to install because its been an 1h and 20m still not done lol
Re: Fps console
nvm i think its up now that took forever lol ill leave some feed back what i think of windows vs linux lol thanks for the help ill be back i n a few hours
Re: Fps console
A lot of times the feel of servers is difficult to quantify. If Linux servers feel better to you, than you might want to stick with that.mateckz wrote:Oh i got you, ya ive always noticed tho like servers that have regged amazing for me shots wise in cs have been linux servers
It's you're call

Re: Fps console
OS reinstalls do take at least a few minutes, aye. This is because of all the files that need to be copied.
