If he was banned by VAC then when he tries to connect to a server he will get a specific date when he is able to reconnect. Being banned by VAC bans you from all secure servers.

no listen before that, we had that problem he got detected by vac, but if you disable vac (must be done if you want CD on your server) you can disable it and they can play on that server because it is no longer secure. but by doing that hackers can come to your server and not automatically be detected. but CD is the safest way so i want vac disabled so he can play again

VAC should still be disabled if you had it disabled before. If you're not sure whether it is or not, do an rcon status and it should say whether the server is secure.

I'd recommend just using straight rcon. You can also do it in the control panel, under Control -- just type "status" into the box and click submit.

Just an FYI. If your sever appears as insecure you will most likely have an influx of hackers and CD is not able to stop all hacks. CD, like all things, can still be bypassed.

yup, when you try to join a secure server, it states you are banned until the year 2008 which is ~ 5 years from now.

your best idea for your friend is to get a new cdkey and start playing on that. CS is pretty cheap now, and even is HL.

if thats the case you need to change your cdkey via the registry or use this handy program:

http://mr.nuclearfallout.net/keychanger.zip

still remember, he has to change his cdkey to a NEW ONE. which means, unless he got another one laying around, different than yours of course and any other person that uses theirs, you can use that.

Its looking like he would have to buy retail or find a HL original somewhere.

good luck.
