Best solution for win 2k8 pushing 100fps on vds!

Post by Theblade83 »

I am runing Xeon 3470, 8 cores 2.89ghz with 16gb ram, 1000gb hdd.
I want to run several win 2k8 vds and 1 or 2 linux vds. I virtualized with xen the first time and had bug issues and uninstaled it. Now im with esxi =vmware but come to findout it doesnt support HPET therefore i cant push more than 500 fps (btw im planing to run CS 1.6 servers) What would be the best option to run Win2k8 on my VDS's so i can get 1000fps stable. I am not trying to go all linux. Looking for best solution after all u guys are the pros.

XenSource did seem to be pretty buggy and that was disappointing. The solution that we use here for our VDS offering is much more stable, but unfortunately also much more complicated.

VMware doesn't have HPET emulation, from what I've read, so Win2k8 will use the pmtimer and top out at around 500fps. To run 1000fps servers on ESXi, you'd need a VM running a Linux distribution with a kernel having TSC-based hrtimers, such as Ubuntu.

I have not had experience with other hypervisors, but to get 1000fps on Windows, you could consider running Windows as the base OS and using VirtualBox; a customer wrote a tutorial on how to do this here: http://www.nfoservers.com/forums/viewto ... =46&t=4741.
